visual ARTS PRACTICE
Since selection to exhibit in the Flying Arts Art of Transition touring exhibition in 1998 with digital image Dam, my arts practice has continued to evolve in the direction of new media.
Despite increasing use of digital imaging in my work (as seen in recent exhibitions, Fmera and Past the Scars), the hand drawn image still forms a vital personal link to the foundations of (my) art expression, culminating in a conceptual approach but with a strong focus on materiality and technique.
Recent works have continued this unique integration of technology with tradition and featured in exhibitions such as habitat habitus: great!walks art & environment alongside the work of Fiona Foley.
DESIGN PRACTICE
With an industry background in graphic design and fashion, many commercial projects have been commissioned. Early work included my selection as an official Expo 88 Licensee with a commemorative T-Shirt design and cover design of Queensland All Over, a tourist guide officially launched at Expo.
The most recent commission has been the facade design of the Queensland Academy for Creative Industries, executed collaboratively with fellow artist Dave Machen. The 60 x 10m sunshade design, together with the ‘pixellated’ lead in wall, was designed to showcase the features of the architectural design whilst echoing the creative activity inside.
ARTS EDUCATion
As a secondary visual arts educator with experience tutoring at a university level, my professional arts practice informs my teaching, resulting in award winning recognition of high-end integration of technology by my students.
A passion for sharing and advancing student outcomes has seen a recent presentation at the InSEA Conference in Osaka, Japan, delivering student works using Machinima in the Visual Arts (use of video games in film-based art making) to a world arts education audience.
